Get ready for 8 months of adrenaline, excitement, fun, and a whole lot of superbikes with the 2017 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship (MCE BSB). Kicking off at the end of March, the MCE BSB promises to be a spectacular showcase of speed and drama.
A brief history
When BSB was introduced in 1988, only 750cc bikes were allowed, owing to the TT Formula I regulations at the time. As time progressed, along with technology, the bikes were replaced by superbikes. Now, you have superbikes from maker’s such as BMW, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha. Many of these superbikes have the capacity of averaging over 180bhp and can reach speeds up to 200mph. They can cover the entire Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in about 86 seconds. Now, that’s speed.
The MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship is one of the United Kingdom’s leading superbike championships. It’s a bike racing series that should be on every motor head’s bucket list. The names, brands, and bikes you see here are a testament to the championship’s ever-increasing popularity.
Fans come from all over the world to witness their favourite bikes and riders in action. The deafening sound from the stands as well as the track is something that shouldn’t be missed by superbike fanatics. The races themselves will keep you on the edge. The elbow-to-elbow proximity of the riders will make your heart race. Such is the nail-biting drama on the track.
What you can expect this year
The line-up for 2017’s championship looks quite impressive. Shane Byrne returns to the track to defend his title. Being a five-time champion (a record), he’s sure to give it his all.
Looking to join the list of greats, which include Ryuichi Kiyonari, Niall Mackenzie, Troy Bayliss, and Chris ‘the Stalker’ Walker, are Christian Iddon, Billy Mcconnell, Michael Laverty, and James Ellison among others.
Watch out for some fresh new faces as well. They could be leading the championship a few years down the line.
Circuits, as usual, are scattered all over the United Kingdom. The series begins at Donington Park and concludes at Brands Hatch GP. Brands Hatch Indy and Oulton Park have the coveted Bank Holiday Monday slot in April. Other circuits covered are Knockhill, Snetterton, Thruxton, Cadwell Park, Silverstone, and Assen.
Apart from the primary races, you also have a plethora of support races such as the Hel British Motostar Championship, Dickies British Supersport Championship, Pirelli National Superstock 600, and Pirelli National Superstock 1000. They, too, like their parent race, offer a splendid serving of adrenaline and speed.
The championship, sponsored by MotorSport Vision (MSV) starts on March 30, 2017, and ends on October 15, 2017. That’s enough excitement to look forward to in 2017. Be sure to catch it if you are a superbike fan, in love with racing or simply in town visiting friends.
You can also catch it live on the screen. Thanks to MSV, the MCE BSB is available for viewers in Europe and Asia. So, fans who cannot make it all the way to the United Kingdom can still enjoy the races as they take place.
It promises to be an exciting spectacle!
